To this day it's one of the few team based tournaments ever hosted. Back in August of 2015, they hosted the Archon Team League Championship (ATLC) which brought together six organizations and 24 players to compete for $240,000. Na'Vi suddenly dropped its entire squad including last year's champion Ostkaka, Team Archon has slowly bled out and face of the organization Amaz has departed for NRG, Hearthlytics released all of its players citing no long-term sustainability in the scene, and just yesterday Team Dignitas did the same.Īrchon in particular stings a little bit as they've been one of the biggest innovators in competitive Hearthstone. It doesn't help that competitive teams have been shuttering left and right. Not to mention the problems many players have with the Conquest and Best of 5 format itself. Instead, it's become predictable from a deckbuilding standpoint and increasingly affected by RNG. Standard was supposed to be the revolution that made competitive Hearthstone great again. After the latest World Champion is crowned at BlizzCon on November 5 the studio will have its chance to make changes, but given its track record, many aren't very hopeful for that. To be fair, the developer has had the Hearthstone Championship Tour (HCT) schedule locked down (at least beyond the point of changes) for the entirety of 2016. Has become the poster boy for the current situation and many viewers are demanding change faster than Blizzard can react. Thanks to the amount of RNG in Hearthstone, let alone the inherent amount of randomness card games have, in general, it's nearly impossible for players to stay consistent across multiple open tournaments. A player from any region could win the World Championship. To many, competitive Hearthstone is flatlining. The difference between the regions isn't massive though. NA is statistically the weakest region at the moment, with EU being the best. We don't really see them outside of the World Championship. This is per region, so a total of 8 players will qualify.Ĭhina is a separate region that plays on their own servers and is basically isolated from the rest of the world. 1st and 2nd place from playoffs qualify for the World Championship. Each win is worth one point so first place gets 5 points, second gets 4 points, 3rd-4th get 3 points, 5th-8th get 2 points, 9th-12th get 1 point and 13th-16th get 0.Īfter those first 7 weeks, the top 8 players qualify to playoffs and the bottom 4 are relegated from Grandmasters. The first 7 weeks of Grandmasters are each mini tournaments. There are playoffs for promotion to the World Championship. You could view the World Championship as the highest tier, though that's a one-off annual tournament. I watch Grandmasters regularly so should be able to answer most of your questions.
